Most “women’s hunting clothing” on the market is a men’s pattern taken in at the waist and called a day’s work. It isn’t. NZ conditions don’t care what’s printed on the label, but your body does - and the fit problems that come from a resized men’s cut show up exactly when you can’t afford them: digging in under a pack on hour six, a sleeve that’s too long to glove up properly, a rise that’s wrong the moment you crouch into a stalk.

Why a genuine women’s fit isn’t just a smaller men’s fit
A proper women’s pattern accounts for a different rise, shorter sleeve and torso proportions, and room through the hip and bust without adding bulk anywhere else. Seam placement matters more than people expect - a flat-locked seam sitting half an inch off can be the difference between comfortable and chafed by the end of a long day under a pack strap or rifle sling. Scaling a men’s block down keeps all the same panel lines and proportions, which is exactly where a resized cut tends to fail.

Layering for the conditions you’ll actually hunt in, not the conditions on the forecast
NZ weather doesn’t hold still, and the right move is to add and shed layers rather than own one piece that tries to do everything. On a cold, damp morning, both Nuyarn® layers go on before you leave camp. Once you’re climbing and working up a sweat, the hoodie often comes off and goes in the pack - the base layer alone, doing its job of moving moisture away from your skin, is usually enough. When you stop to glass and your body heat drops fast, the hoodie goes straight back on over the top. Doubling the two Nuyarn® layers is the simplest way to add warmth at rest without adding bulk you’ll regret carrying on the climb.
For sustained rain or wind, you’ll still want a dedicated waterproof or wind-resistant outer shell over the top - the Nuyarn® system is built to regulate temperature and manage moisture from the inside, not replace a shell in genuinely wet conditions.

Our women’s range is smaller than the men’s right now, and we’d rather say that plainly than pad it out with pieces that haven’t been properly field-tested. Every new piece we add goes through the same Southern Alps testing as the men’s kit before it goes on the site - no shortcuts because the range is still growing.
